In a release yesterday, the Ministry of Health said the nationals on the Enchantment Of The Seas Cruise Ship, will be taken off and monitored at State facilities.

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have asked people travelling from states where COVID-19 cases are rising to go into self-isolation for 14 days.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said, those states are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas andUtah.

He said people coming from those states – including returning New York, New Jersey and Connecticut residents – would be asked to quarantine upon arrival for 14 days.

Governor Cuomo said anyone found breaking the quarantine could face fines of $1,000 rising to $5,000 for repeated violations.

New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy said people in the 3 states had been “through hell and back” and did not want “another round” of virus infections.

So far, the US has recorded more than 2.3 million cases of the virus and more than 121,000 deaths.

On Tuesday America’s top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told lawmakers there was “a disturbing surge of infection” and “increased community spread” in many southern and western states.

The University of Washington predicts 180,000 US deaths by October or 146,000 if 95% of Americans wear masks.

High Court blocks CoP from firing officer

The High Court has blocked the Police Commissioner from firing an officer who is now on remand awaiting trial for the murder of 3 civilians in Barrackpore 9 years ago.

Commissioner Gary Griffith feels Officer Safraz Juman should tender his resignation or be fired from the service, although he is yet to be convicted for the crime.

However Justice Ricky Rahim yesterday granted an interim injunction to the officer, stopping the Commissioner from trying to remove the accused from the service.

The police officer along with Sgt. Kemraj Sahadeo, officers Renaldo Reviero, Glenn Singh, Roger Nicholas and Antonio Ramadin are all accused in the murders.

The victims are Abigail Johnson, Alana Duncan and Kerron ‘Fingers’ Eccles.

They were killed in October 2011.

Officer Juman has been on suspension since December 2014.

In a May 1st 2020 letter to Mr. Juman, Commissioner Griffith called on him to retire from the service, saying it would be in the public’s interest.

He gave the officer an option to retire and to explain why he should not be fired.

But Justice Rahim described the opportunity granted to Mr. Juman by the Commissioner to provide an explanation as to why he should not be fired, as an empty promise.

With the judge’s ruling the Commissioner cannot terminate the officer until the hearing and determination of Mr. Juman’s judicial review claim.
