OWTU President General Ancel Roget

Leader of the opposition, Kamla Persad Bissessar gets another whipping over her revelations on the proposed Petrotrin deal between the Oilfield Workers Trade Union and the government.

On Monday night, Kamla Persad Bissessar gave details of the negotiations, reportedly taken from official documents.

One day after the Prime Minister and his energy and finance Ministers, condemned Mrs. Persad Bissessar, the OWTU President General Ancel Roget does the same.

Mr. Roget said the leader of the opposition is trying to hurt the negotiations and the union’s bid for the refinery.

He insisted Patriotic Energies and Technologies is committed to keeping Petrotrin in the hands of the public.

Mr. Roget also said Mrs. Persad Bissessar has an agenda.

He believes her attacks on the government were really intended to ruin any possible deal.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and his energy and finance Ministers told a news conference on Wednesday the Opposition Leader was irresponsible and is seeking to undermine the talks and the government.

Mr. Roget said when the government revealed the rejection of a few key issues the Opposition Leader was pleased.

Dr. Rowley describes Opposition Leader’s claims as a desperate attempt at a distraction

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says the revelations of the Opposition Leader, about the negotiations between the government and Patriotic Energies could have undermined the process.

Dr. Rowley has described as a disgrace and a desperate attempt at a distraction, Kamla Persad Bissessar’s claims of plans to sell the assets of Paria Fuel Trading Company.

Dr. Keith Rowley says Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar was in hot water for a plagiarized congratulatory letter to the US President Elect and she needed to turn the public’s attention elsewhere.

The UNC leader also claimed Patriotic needs 1 billion US dollars for the purchase and restart of the refinery and it has reached out to a commercial bank and the company called Trafigura.

She described Trafigura as a troubled company.

But according to the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader has her information wrong.

He says Mrs. Persad Bissessar is up to mischief and sought to clarify the government’s relationship to the foreign entity.

Addressing a media conference yesterday Dr. Rowley said the opposition is trying to sabotage the deal.

He said they vowed to stop it if they won the election and now they are seeing that promise through.

An apology from Dr. Avinash Sawh, after he was heard using racist remarks and abusive language towards a now former employee.

Yesterday Dr. Sawh said he was sorry to the former worker and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Dr. Sawh issued the apologies during a media conference held at the Port of Spain office of his attorney Martin George yesterday.

In the last few days the recording was shared on social media and the doctor has faced severe criticisms.

There have been calls for his license to be revoked by the Medical Board.

Dr. Sawh said he understands why there is a backlash to what was shared on social media.

The apology came on the very day the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago was to hold a meeting on the issue.
