Over 20,000 Bahamians are now out of jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is expecting an increase in the country’s unemployment numbers.
Dr. Minnis was addressing the nation last evening when he said the pandemic is impacting negatively on the country and there is need to get the economy working once again.
Dr. Minnis sees a gloomy economic future for his country.
The Prime Minister said he has to be honest and open with the Bahamian people.
He said some very tough decisions must be made.
On the number of COVID-19 cases in the Bahamas, the Prime Minister said stands at 92 cases.
72 In New providence, 8 in Grand Bahama, elven in Bimini and 1 in Cat Cay.
There have been 11 deaths.
Last Friday, 183 Bahamians and residents returned home after being stuck in the United States for several weeks.
124 individuals are now in home quarantine and 59 are in government quarantine.
