Opposition calls for Minister to ‘go’ after lag in action on children’s homes report

Opposition Senator David Nahkid

The Minister is being accused of not moving fast enough to address reports of abuse and wrongdoing at some children’s homes, funded by the State.

Opposition Senator David Nahkid yesterday said Mrs. Webster Roy and her Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, have failed the children they were assigned to protect.

Senator Nahkid said the findings have created, what he believes to be national trauma.

He named, the Prime Minister, the Minister and former Director of the Children’s Authority Nicola Harvey Mitchell.

The Senator wants an audit into the Children’s Authority before any more money is pumped into it.

Senator Nakhid questioned why to date the Prime Minister has made no comment on the findings of the investigation.

Last week Minister Webster Roy admitted she was saddened by the details of abuse at some homes.

She also sought to explain why some of theses homes are still in operation.

The Minister has announced the establishment of a task force to develop a plan for the implementation of recommendations contained in the Judith Jones report.
