Minutes after he was sworn in as Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Ancil Dennis vows to do his best in the position.
At 33 years old Mr. Dennis is now the youngest Assemblyman to be elected to the position.
Mr. Dennis was the only nominee put forward by his party, although Marslyn Melville-Jack and Joel Jack were tipped to contest the post.
The position of Chief Secretary became vacant following the resignation of Kelvin Charles.
But Mr. Dennis also indicated yesterday, he is holding the position for his Political Leader in Tobago, Tracy Davidson Celestine.
Mr. Charles was absent from yesterday’s sitting of the Assembly.
He lost the elections in the Tobago council of the Peoples National Movement earlier this year.
During talks with the new team and his successor as Political Leader, Tracy Davidson Celestine, he agreed to resign at the end of April.
Mr. Dennis resigned the post of Deputy Presiding Officer of the T.H.A two days ago paving the way for his election.
Earlier in the sitting of the Assembly, Minority Leader Watson Duke sought clarification from the Presiding Officer as to the legality of yesterday’s special sitting.
Presiding Officer Vanessa Cutting Thomas said she was following the relevant guidelines as set out in law.
But this did not satisfy Mr Duke who along with fellow Minority Assemblyman Farley Agustine walked out.
Mrs Cutting Thomas said earlier it was necessary to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Kelvin Charles.
Mr Duke had threatened legal action hours before the start of the T.H.A. sitting yesterday.
