Works and Transport Minister Fitzgerald Hinds weighs in on the accident which has left Traffic Warden Mandisa Woods hospitalized. The 27-year-old mother of two sustained a fractured leg, gaping wounds under the buttocks and leg, and several other cuts and bruises about her body when she was thrown into a glass pane after being struck by an SUV on Independence Square.
It is reported the female driver of the vehicle was heading north along abercromby street when she failed to stop at the intersection on Independence Square. Her SUV first hit a van heading east. It is said the 56 year-old woman reversed in a bid to leave the scene when she rolled onto the pavement and hit Ms.Woods.
The Traffic Warden was thrown into the glass pane at Nicholas Court. The building was also hit. Reports say the driver pulled off again and almost hit two other pedestrians. The driver of the SUV was chased and stopped a short distance away from the scene. Yesterday Works and Transport Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said the driver is now assisting police with their investigations. Ms.Woods was directing traffic in the area at the time of the accident.
