A manhunt is launched for a man who shot at a police officer in central Trinidad.

Reports say at around 1:30am yesterday officer Maraj attached to the Chaguanas Crime Patrol Unit, responded to a report of an intruder on premises in Edinburg 500.

Upon arrival PC Maraj was attacked from behind by the assailant who was hiding in a dark area.

The man fired at the officer hitting him in the back.

However he escaped injury as he was wearing a bullet proof vest.

Up to news time the suspect remained at large.
