Government: Don’t blame us for upsurge in murders

Communications Minister Maxi Cuffie

Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie

The government says it cannot be blamed for the recent upsurge in murders.

This after some blame was cast on the Dr Keith Rowley led administration after its victory at the polls on September 7th. Some attributed the increase in criminal activity to the new government.

Today Communications Minister, Maxie Cuffie says the Peoples National Movement administration, has nothing to do with the increase in killings.

However, Mr Cuffie says he believes this recent charge at the PNM is the work of opposition United National Congress.

He says the UNC is politicizing the issue of crime.

Speaking at today’s post cabinet news conference this Mr Cuffie said increased murders must be dealt with by the commissioner of police.

He said his government is treating with the issue of crime in a serious manner, adding this is the main reason the ministry of national security was given the largest allocation in the budget.
