A court appearance today by the couple now charged with the abuse of a toddler reportedly in their care.

The man and woman were charged last evening under the act relating to the protection of children.

Last week, a video posted on Facebook showed a man slapping a child while feeding her from a bottle.

The video triggered a public outcry and demands for the persons involved to be held accountable.

Officers from the San Fernando CID, Operations Unit and the Cyber Crime Unit traced the video and went to an apartment building on Manjack Street, Vistabella where they arrested the man and woman.

The two were taken to the San Fernando CID, and then handed over to officers of the Child Protection Unit.

They were then placed at the Maloney Police Station.

The male suspect is 32 years old and his female companion is a 21 year old Jamaican national.
