The union representing teachers says teachers dress code is not an issue.
On Saturday, chairman of the ruling Peoples National Movement, Franklyn Khan said the way some teachers dress, could plant the wrong seed and contribute to the crime problem among young people.
However the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association disagrees.
Vice president of TTUTA Lindsay Doodhai says the ministry already has a policy governing attire for teachers and the entire conversation is unnecessary.
Adding his voice to the discussion general secretary of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha Satnarine Maharaj says it is not a major issue.
Mr. Maharaj says the Education Ministry’s reported crackdown on teachers who dress inappropriately is a red herring.
On the Showdown programme on i95.5fm yesterday Mr. Maharaj recalled it become necessary at one for him to address the issue but it did not involve teachers.
The National Parent Teachers Association is supporting the government’s position, saying some teachers are dressing inappropriately.
