An autopsy is ordered to determine how baby Jacob Bastaldo died. The 2-year-old boy was declared dead on Friday at the Chaguanas District Health Facility.

His 18-year-old mother told police she was at the Caroni Village, Caroni home of her boyfriend when she noticed the child acting strangely. She said he was not his jovial self and appeared sluggish.

The child later complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the health facility. Doctors say there appeared to be marks of violence on the child’s back and stomach.

Police were notified . Both the mother and her boyfriend have given statements to the police. The autopsy is expected to take place today. The child and his mother are from Jack Terrace, Lendore Village, Chaguanas.
