Another reminder that masks must be worn in public spaces

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram

Another reminder from the Minister of Health that masks are to be worn in public spaces.

Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says he observed that while commercial businesses are enforcing the safety policy; customers and persons in rural areas are ignoring the rule.

Yesterday the Minister also expressed concern for public transport workers.

Mr. Deyalsingh added that he has seen breaches of the Public Health Regulation in the capital city.

On a separate issue the Minister noted that consideration may be given to having persons foot their own bill for quarantine as the numbers increase.

The government has been handling quarantine accommodation for all persons but it may not be able to sustain that for much longer.

And Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram says the number of cases for all respiratory illnesses has significantly reduced over the past 2 months.

Also speaking at the COVID-19 news briefing yesterday he attributed the decrease to the rigid COVID-19 regulations.

The CMO also said this country is prepared to handle any Ebola outbreak should it arrive on local shores.

However he maintained that the borders closure is still in effect to prevent any such occurrence.

Dr. Parasram also said schools will remain closed at this time as clusters of students can result in rapid spread of viral illnesses.

He noted that proper measures would be put in place to treat with that when school reopens.
