The Attorney General says the staging of virtual hearings from the prisons has resulted in huge savings for the State.
Faris Al Rawi says the measure was introduced in an aim to safeguard persons in the prison against the virus.
Over 3500 cases have been heard virtually.
Mr. Al Rawi says this has reduced the Prisoner Transport Bill and allowed government to put the money saved to good use.
Speaking in the parliament yesterday the AG also said the Dr. Keith Rowley led administration continues to do a lot of work in prisons.
But in an immediate response, opposition MP, Saddam Hosein said government’s efforts are not enough.
The MP for Barataria/ San Juan called on the ruling administration to do more to improve the criminal justice system.
