Little Aarti Ramkhalawan is said to be on the road to a full recovery.

Aarti, who is described as weak but stable, spent her third birthday with her maternal grandmother, Sharda Bhim, at her bedside at the San Fernando General Hospital yesterday.

The toddler is being treated for cuts to the hands, neck and face after being stabbed by her father, Premnath Ramkhalawan, on Sunday night.

Her mother, Aarika Bhim, was stabbed to death by Ramkhalawan who then hanged himself.

Separate funeral services were held for the couple on Wednesday.

Hospital staff on Ward 5 of the San Fernando Teaching Hospital is said to have sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to little Aarti yesterday.

Medical Director at the hospital, Dr. Anand Chattoorgoon, is quoted as saying nurses showered the toddler with love on her special day.
