Petrotrin confirms an oil leak at its Point-A-Pierre refinery.
The leak is said to have occurred at around 2:45 pm yesterday, at one of its fuel oil storage tanks at the bond.
According to the Environmental Management Authority, some 20 thousand gallons of bunker fuel was accidentally released, following the rupture of the storage tank.
The EMA says, it contacted Petrotrin and the Ministry of Energy and requested that the National Oil-Spill Contingency Plan be activated.
Petrotrin has said its emergency response plan was immediately initiated and efforts are continuing to contain the oil spill.
