Vasant Barath: UNC has suffered over the past five years

Opposition Senator, Vasant Barath

Opposition Senator, Vasant Barath

Vasant Barath says there has been a breakdown of the organs within the United National Congress, and the party is yet to discuss its loss at the polls on September 7th.

Mr. Barath has entered the race to become political leader of the party on December 5th.

On the morning show on i95.5fm today, the former minister said the UNC is in crisis and the current executive has to take the blame.

Mr. Barath was the minister of trade and communications under Kamla Persad Bissessar. Following the UNC’s defeat in the general election, Mrs. Persad Bissessar appointed him a senator.

He said he has made a decision on that position, but won’t say what it is until he names his slate later this week. Mr Barath said the UNC has suffered over the past five years.

But his contender Dr. Roodal Moonilal says Mr. Barath knows he cannot be opposition leader even if he becomes political leader of the UNC because he is not in the lower house.

Dr. Moonilal is also vying for the post of political leader.

Sixteen positions are up for grabs on December 5th.
