The man fatally shot by police in Cunupia has been identified.
He is Matthew Arlington Lendore. He lived in Morvant.
Mr Lendore was one of four suspected bandits armed with guns, who attempted to rob a Cunupia businessman during the early hours of yesterday morning.
Reports say around 4:30 officers from the Northern Division received a tip off of an impending robbery at the southern main road home of the businessman
It is said when officers arrived they called on the men to drop their weapon, but they refused. The men are then said to have opened fire on the officers who acted with equal force.
The assailants attepmted to flee.
However, Mr. Lendore is said to have collapsed a short distance away after being hit several times about the body.
He was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility by officers, where he was pronounced dead. Police say a 9mm pistol was recovered near the body.
Police believe at least two other were shot during the exchange, while the search continues for a fourth suspect.
Investigators are calling on all medical institutions and professionals to be on the lookout for anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. They are being asked to contact the nearest police station.
