PNM has won a 2nd consecutive term in office

The Peoples National Movement has won a second consecutive term in office.

The party yesterday captured 22 seats, 1 less than it had when it went to the polls yesterday.

The PNM lost the Moruga/Tableland constituency to the United National Congress.

In that seat the UNC’s Michelle Benjamin claimed victory over her opponent Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters.

In declaring his party’s victory last night, Dr. Rowley admitted it was not an easy task.

Dr. Rowley said the results show that the people of this country can do what is right.

Even though his party got 1 less seat than in 2015, Dr. Rowley affirmed that the results do not reflect the performance of the PNM over the last 5 years.

Meanwhile Dr. Keith Rowley said this could be his last term in active politics.

As he looked ahead, Dr. Rowley told supporters of his Peoples National Movement, a better future is coming but the road will be difficult.

Dr. Rowley promised young people that during this term his government will seek to digitise the country.

He said the appointments to the Cabinet will reflect that plan.
