Opposition Leader is questioning Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s silence on the crime situation. Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar describes the recent upsurge in murders as an “emerging crime crisis”.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Opposition Leader said the Prime Minister’s silence in the face of the brutal murder of Superintendent of Prisons David Millette suggests his government has lost control of the crime situation.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar referred to the number of murders which occurred immediately after the People’s National Movement government took office in September. She said the figure now appears set to exceed last year’s.

The Opposition Leader said the Government appears clueless about addressing this alarming trend. Mrs. Persad-Bissessar insisted the Prime Minister must speak, he must act and he must assure the nation that initiatives are being taken to bring this crisis to an end.
