More slamming for Central Bank Governor Jwala Rambaran, this time from former Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj. Mr. Maharaj believes the governor was wrong to declare the country is in recession without notifying the Minister of Finance.
Minister Colm Imbert has also been critical of the action taken by the governor. Mr. Maharaj said the governor may have been political in his decision to go public. And the Trinidad And Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce is also telling Governor Rambaran that he must accept responbility for the current high consumption of foreign exchange.
The chamber is not pleased the governor named companies which are high users of foreign exchange. According to the chamber it was a clear breach of confidentiality on the part of Governor Rambaran. The chamber says by publicly disclosing the large users of foreign exchange the governor appears to be holding the bank and himself blameless for high foreign exchange usage.
