Barbados police say they are taking “seriously” threats of possible violence during the annual Crop Over celebrations this year. Police say they are now aware of messages on social media threatening a “bloodbath” to avenge the killing of a young man recently.
In a statement, the Royal Barbados Police Force says it “has taken the conversation seriously and an investigation has been launched”. Police are also urging members of the public to provide any information they may have about anyone or a group wanting to disrupt events to the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers. The police are also assuring the public that every action was being taken to ensure the safety of the public.
They say all appropriate measures will be taken throughout the Crop Over season to provide a safe environment for all persons in association with other law enforcement agencies and private security. Activities marking Crop Over have already started and will climax on August 5th with the traditional Parade of Bands.
