Dr Fenton Ferguson

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has replaced her controversial minister of health Dr. Fenton Ferguson.

Dr. Ferguson was removed with immediate effect yesterday.

Dr. Ferguson has faced tremendous pressure over the past weeks because of his handling of some health issues, including the deaths of up to 19 babies at two health institutions in the country. He also received flak for his handling of the CHIK V outbreak last year.

Only last Friday, Dr. Ferguson took the task his critics. He said he was  being blamed for everything.

However, Dr Ferguson has not been thrown out of the cabinet he has now been assigned the portfolio of Labour and Social Security.

The new health minister is Horace Dalley and Prime Minister Simpson Miller has instructed him to correct the shortcomings in the health sector.
