A poll commissioned by the Express, done by solution by simulation gives the Prime Minister a 51% job-approval rating.
The process sought to gauge public opinion in the context of government’s first anniversary in office.
601 adults were interviewed via telephone during the period August 30th to September 5th, 2016.
41% disapproved of the job the Prime Minister was doing while 8% were undecided.
SBS, founded by Nigel Henmdry, noted the 51% job approval rating for the Prime Minister is significant considering the PNM government was elected by a 51.7% majority in September 2015.
Former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, whose party won 60% of the vote in the 2010 General Election, enjoyed a 54% approval rating after one year of office.
SBS also noted that the Prime Minister’s support has expanded beyond the party’s traditional confines.
The PM’s approval rating is 76% among citizens of African descent, 25% east Indian descent and 71% among the critical group of mixed race voters.
SBS says these figures are less polarised than those of the political climate in recent times.
