Arson is suspected in a fire, which destroyed the home of a police officer.

Newscenter 5 understands at around 1:15am yesterday Special Reserved Officer Reynold Charles, his mother and disabled aunt were asleep at his home, when he was alerted by loud explosions.

Upon checking he discovered his house and his pick up truck engulfed in flames.

PC Charles rushed his relatives outside the burning house and contacted police.

Fire officers arrived on the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze.

However a huge part of the house was destroyed. Damage is estimated at half a million dollars. The 39-year-old officer is attached to the Gran Couva Police Station.
