The woman found dead at the Queens Park Savannah has been identified as Asami Nagakiya. She was Japanese and often participated in carnival activities in Trinidad and Tobago.
It is said Ms. Nagakiya played with several steel bands in Panorama competitions over the years. A homeless man found her body yesterday morning opposite the Queens Royal College in Port of Spain.
Yesterday following the discovery the area was cordoned off by police for several hours. Ms. Nagakiya was found lying face down. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St. James, where an autopsy will be performed today.
The woman appeared to have marks of violence on her right forearm and waist. It is believed the woman died sometime on Tuesday night. Ms. Nagakiya was in the costume of the band Legacy when she was found.
