A woman who was reportedly driving the vehicle which ran into Traffic Warden Mandisa Woods is assisting police with their investigations. It is reported the 56 year-old woman was heading north along Abercromby Street when she failed to stop at the intersection on Independence Square. Her SUV first hit a van heading east.
The woman is said to have reversed in a bid to leave the scene when she rolled onto the pavement and hit Ms. Woods. The Traffic Warden was thrown into the glass pane at Nicholas Court. The driver of the vehicle also hit the building. Reports say the driver pulled off again and almost hit two other pedestrians. They sustained some injuries.
The driver of the SUV was chased and stopped a short distance away from the scene. Up to last evening Ms. Woods was being treated at the Port of Spain General Hospital. The a 27-year-old mother of two, sustained a fractured leg, gaping wounds under the buttocks and leg, and several other cuts and bruises about her body when she was thrown into a glass pane after being struck by an suv on independence square.
It is said Ms. Woods received several stitches about the body. This morning Works and Transport Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said the woman who was driving the vehicle is now assisting police with their investigations. Ms. Woods was directing traffic in the area.
