A shipment of peppers from Trinidad and Tobago to Canada is found to also carry 19 kilograms of cocaine.
Customs officers at Canada’s Pearson International Airport seized the shipment on June 23rd.
According to the Canada Border Patrol Agency the cocaine was hidden under a pile of peppers in a cargo plane from Trinidad and Tobago.
CBSA officials say the discovery was made when the plane was being searched.
They say while the plane was being unloaded, they noticed two suspicious boxes.
Inside those boxes, officers reported finding a bushel of pimento peppers but, underneath, there were 17 brick-shaped packages
Officers continued searching the plane, while the packages were sent for examination
The CBSA says they tested positive for cocaine
the drug was later turned over to the RCMP.
So far this year, CBSA officers in the greater Toronto area have seized more than 678 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
