Registration for the local government by-elections in two corporations opens tomorrow.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission says Malabar South and Auzonville/Tunapuna residents can register for the polls today. In a statement the EBC says registration will begin on Tuesday October 20, 2015 and end on Wednesday 28 October, 2015.
Voting for local government bye-elections is scheduled for December 7, 2015. The by-elections were called because two former councillors, Esmond Ford and Anthony Garcia are now government MPs.
Residents of said districts are asked to register at the EBC Arima and Tunapuna offices from Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
The EBC said the purpose of the electoral registration is to facilitate those persons who:
1) Attained the age of 18 years but have not been registered as electors
2) Have been registered as electors but changed their address and have not informed the Registration Officer
3) Have been registered as electors and changed their names due to marriage but their previous names still appear on the Preliminary List of Electors
4) Have been registered as electors but their names do not appear on the Preliminary List of Electors.
The EBC said there will be no further registration or registration-related matters conducted after the close of business on Wednesday October 28. Following the local government bye-elections the public will be duly notified by the EBC as to the resumption date of registration activities at both the Arima and Tunapuna Registration Area Offices.
Citizens with questions are asked to call the EBC on 627-1516/627-0745 or visit www.ebctt.com.
