Public Utilities Minister assuring that steps are being taken to fix problems which caused a protest by Beetham Landfill workers

Public Utilities Minister Ancil Antoine is assuring that steps are being taken to fix the problems, which led to a protest, by workers of the Beetham Landfill.

The Industrial General and Sanitation Workers Union yesterday led the demonstration outside the landfill.

Police officers had to turn away garbage and dump trucks as the drivers began lining the westbound lane of the Beetham Highway

The workers gathered in front of the main gate to protest the non-payment of arrears.

President of the union, Robert Benacia said things could get worse of the workers are not paid.

The workers say the action will continue until they receive outstanding monies.

Minister Antoine says he has spoken to Finance Minister Colm Imbert about the matter as recently as Saturday.

He could not say how long it would take to get the release from the Finance Ministry.

Minister Antoine said yesterday garbage and dump trucks could go to the Forres Park or Guanapo Landfills in the interim.
