PM wonders who will be holding the position of Police Commissioner

images-4The uncertainty looming in the Office of Police Commissioner now concerns Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.

The tenure of Acting Commissioner Stephen Williams came to an end on July 16th.

Mr. Williams, who was on vacation leave, returns to work tomorrow but it is reported that it is not known whether he will resume duties.

Speaking yesterday, Dr. Rowley said it is worrying.

The head of the National Security Council said issues at the top of the police service are affecting the handling of crime.

Dr. Rowley said for too long monies have been spent without results.

Dr. Rowley was speaking at the 46th Annual PNM Convention at the Queens Park Savannah yesterday.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says that as head of the National Security Council, he has no knowledge of who will be the Acting Commissioner of Police come tomorrow.
This as he expressed his deep concern with the country’s crime problem and signalled his intention to take a more active role in tackling crime.
The Prime Minister referred to a dysfunctionality in the system, implying that it appeared to include the Police Service Commission as well as the police service itself.
