Schoolboy murders shock the Laventille community; police have not yet held anyone in connection with the attack. The boys are 16 year-old Mark Richards and 17 year-old Denelson Smith.
They were both students of the Success Laventille Secondary School. They were killed on upper Picton Road yesterday afternoon. Police reports say the teenagers who were both in form 4, were on their way home with two other classmates when gunmen stopped the taxi.
The gunmen are said to have ordered all the children out and shot the two boys. Denelson died near Fatima Trace while Mark died a short distance away. Denelson lived at Mulrain Trace, Picton, and Mark at Sogren Trace. The killing happened around 3.15 pm.
At the murder scene yesterday Denelson’s brother Devin said eyewitnesses told of the incident. Devin smith believes its related to the senseless gang warfare in the community. Education Minister Anthony Garcia is horrified by the murders of two teenage students of the Success Laventille Secondary School.
Minister Garcia says he is disturbed by the fact that students are not safe while using public transport. He says what is even more disturbing is that they were killed while in school uniform. Minister Garcia says he will be calling for a full investigation into the matter.
