Bahamas eases restrictions in bid to reopen economy

Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Dr. Hubert Minnis

The Prime Minister of Bahamas eases restrictions in a bid to open up the economy.

Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis yesterday announced some sweeping changes to some protocols and emergency orders.

He revealed that all islands, except for New Providence, may now have small gatherings of no more than 10 people.

Also visiting hours for beaches and recreational parks will be from 5am to noon.

Residents on all islands, including New Providence may also exercise outdoors in their neighbourhoods from 5am and 10pm.

The Prime Minister has also announced that business agencies, establishments and institutions will now be able to operate.

Casinos remain closed.

Meanwhile the tourism sector is making another attempt to reopen.

Tourism Minister Deonisio Deaguilla yesterday said all hotel properties should begin operating again on October 15th.

Tourists to the Bahamas must present a negative RT PCR test taken within 5 days of travel.

Once on the island the Minister said such visitors would be given a VIP experience.

The Minister expects that there will be strict security measures on properties.

He also believes all hotel owners should ensure their staff members remain safe, by offering on site COVID-19 testing.
