The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force is set to hold its first, court martial since 2022.

The court martial surrounds a cold case of alleged sexual misconduct, which has been revived.

Chief of Defence Staff, Commodore Don Polo, has convened an ordinary court martial for a corporal attached to the, Defence Force Reserves.

The proceedings, scheduled for today at Defence Force Headquarters, Chaguaramas, stem from an incident nearly three years ago, involving an allegation of unwanted sexual advances toward a female colleague.

According to reports, the matter went cold after evidence was initially taken, and was only revived after the alleged victim threatened legal action against the Defence Force.

Under section 128 of the defence act, the TTDF has a three-year limitation period, to try disciplinary matters by court martial—meaning this case was brought just ahead of that deadline.

Squadron Leader K Ramsingh will preside as president of the court, with Squadron Leader S Chase and Captain D Sealey serving as members.

Captains B Francois and S Soodeensingh will prosecute.

The accused has not yet entered a plea.
