A teenager is fatally shot by an off duty police officer in La Horquetta during an alleged robbery.

He has been identified as 19 year old Kayode Edwards, of Phase 7, La Horquetta.

Reports say at around 10:30 last evening, a group of men, including the officer, were gambling at a house at Phase 5, when three armed men stormed the premises and announced a hold up.

However, it is said the officer drew his licensed firearm and fired shots at the alleged bandits.

It is said the alleged attackers attempted to flee the scene, but Mr Edwards was hit. He collapsed and died a short while later.

Investigators say a homemade shotgun was found next to his body.

The other two assailants fled the scene.

An autopsy has since been ordered on the body. Investigations are continuing.
