The 16 year-old boy believed to have cut a fellow pupil during a fight at the Brazil High School, San Rafael, has been released. Police say based on their investigations there is no way to definitively say the teenager was the person who cut a boy during the fight.
The San Rafael police were called to the secondary school on Wednesday following a fight at around midday. A 16-year-old pupil of the school received a cut to his right leg. Investigators describe the injury as a “seven centimeter laceration”. Police say the boy was taken to Arima District Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
The boy, accompanied by his mother, later made a report to officers at San Rafael Police Station. The other 16-year-old alleged attacker was later detained. Police say they took a number of witness statements from the victim and the suspect as well as several other pupils at the school and it was revealed the fight was not between two boys but about seven of them.
As a result police say none of the children could say with any degree of certainty who actually wielded the cutlass that afternoon. A team of officers, under Supt. Hendron Moses, is continuing investigations.
