Kamla Persad Bissessar has written to the Prime Minister asking him to seek international observers for the August 10th General Election.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar wants observers from the CARICOM, Commonwealth and the United Nations.
The suggestion of the Opposition Leader has gotten support from at least 5 other political parties.
The Progressive Democratic Patriots, the Congress Of the People, the Progressive Party, the People Empowerment Party and the Movement for Social Justice agree there should be monitors here.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says he has no problem with international observers being allowed in.
He says he will ask CARICOM and the Commonwealth if they are interested in monitoring the election.
Dr. Rowley says if the answer were yes he would let them know the observers have to be here by July 19th so they can be quarantined.
The Prime Minister is also reported as saying he has no hesitation in saying that at the end of the day he is certain the observers would conclude that the election was conducted free and fair and free from fear.
The Prime Minister is quoted in the Express Newspaper today as saying the Opposition Leader is laying the groundwork for explaining her defeat on August 10th.
