No approval yet for British QC expected to represent UNC in election matter

The Law Association is yet to sign the approval for a British Queens Counsel expected to represent the opposition United National Congress, in its legal matter against the Elections and Boundaries Commission.

The United National Congress is challenging the extra time given by the EBC during the September 7th general election.

The party contends that its chances of winning at the polls were affected by the extra hour granted to voters.

Attorney Wayne Sturge is today questioning why the law association has not yet given Timothy Straker QC permission to practice in this country. Mr. Sturge is questioning whether the action is politically motivated.

QC straker was expected in court this morning.

Mr. Sturge now says his team may have to proceed without him if the approval is not granted.

When contacted by News Center five Law Association president Reginald Amour said he was unable to speak as he was in a meeting.

The six seats being contested are; San Fernando west, La Horquetta/Talparo, Toco/Sangre Grande, Tunapuna, St. Joseph and Moruga/Tableland.
