Bar owners and restaurants call on government to ease restrictions

A call for government to ease the restrictions on bar owners and restaurants.

Interim President of the Bar Owners and Operators Association Theron Mohan says there is absolutely no reason for the authorities to continue the take away system.

He does not believe a lift on restrictions will result in an increase of COVID-19 cases.

Mr. Mohan is suggesting government re-introduce the same safety measures it did before the recent ban on in-house dinning and drinking

In May, bars were closed and in-house dining suspended as government worked to implement measures to stem the spread of COVID-19.

Today, Mr. Mohan said bar and restaurant owners are suffering.

Speaking with Newscenter 5 yesterday he also said many bar owners have been unable to access grants.

Mr. Mohan wants government to do something to address this.

He also said the association continues to engage all stakeholders and strive for excellence according to world health standards to ensure that COVID-19 remains under control.
