The MET service says, Trinidad and Tobago could see worsening dry conditions this month.

It warns of a developing agricultural drought across parts of Trinidad.

The latest agricultural drought outlook indicates that by the end of September, a drought watch is expected from Piarco westward across, the lower Caroni River Basin.

Other areas are also showing varying levels of dryness.

It says northeastern Trinidad and the upper Caroni River basin are expected to remain dry, while

Central and northeastern Tobago could experience dry conditions. Southwestern Tobago is forecast to be moderately dry, described as a dry spell.

The TTMS, says an agricultural drought could begin developing during September from Piarco.

Precipitation index (spi) for July through September

Is expected to reach as low as -1.87 at Piarco and –

1.62 at Valsayn, signaling significant rainfall.

Deficits in those areas.

The met office says, the developing conditions could place additional pressure on agricultural.

Activities, particularly in areas experiencing prolonged rainfall shortages.

The TTMS is urging the public and agricultural stakeholders to monitor its dryness/drought indicator outlook, as conditions continue to develop.
