UNC leader says PM using information from police for political benefit is unethical

United National Congress leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar

The United National Congress leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar wants the Prime Minister to stop using allegations, untruths and distractions in the campaign to August 10th.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar yesterday issued a statement, responding to claims made by Dr. Keith Rowley at a meeting in Tobago last weekend.

Dr. Rowley paid attention and referred to a newspaper article, which told of corruption and questionable transactions under the Peoples Partnership.

The story referenced the state owned Estate Management Business Development Company and said millions of dollars were corruptly dispersed.

Dr. Rowley said the Anti Corruption Bureau of the police service has uncovered the questionable transactions and deals at the EMBD.

He suspects that some, who are seeking office under the banner of the United National Congress, have 1 goal, to stop criminal probes.

In her release, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said it is disheartening that while people’s standard of living has worsened, Dr. Rowley is seeking to mount a campaign built on allegations.

She said he has failed to offer solutions to deal with the many issues facing the people.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar said the police investigations are police matters and should be left to their conclusions.

She feels it is unethical that the head of the political arm of the station would be seeking to utilise information from the police for political benefit.
