Opposition claims all is not well with the negotiations for the purchase of Petrotrin Refinery

Petrotrin Refinery

New claims that all is not well with the negotiations for the purchase of the Petrotrin Refinery.

The opposition leader says the government has not been telling the truth about the proposed deal and Petrotrin is not the only item for sale.

At a virtual meeting of her United National Congress on Monday evening Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar presented information, which claims the assets of Paria Fuel Trading are to be sold as well.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar said the Prime Minister, the Energy Minister and the Minister of Finance have been dishonest with the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar then referred to the price, which is to be paid for the Petrotrin Refinery by Patriotic Energy and Technologies.

The UNC leader also claimed Patriotic needs 1 billion US dollars for the purchase and restart of the refinery and it has reached out to a commercial bank and the company called Trafigura.

She described Trafigura as a troubled company.

The Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has called a news conference for later today.

The Ministers of Finance and Energy will be in attendance.

It is expected the government will then respond to the claims of Mrs. Persad Bissessar.
