Male teacher freed of molestation charge returns to classes today

Unknown-26A male teacher freed of a molestation charge that allegedly involved a pupil returns to classes today much to the disgust of teachers and the school’s Parent Teachers Association.

According to an Express newspaper update today, the teacher was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Education Ministry but his return to classes is not sitting well with his colleagues who walked off the job on his arrival.

The identity of the school is being withheld but parents reportedly removed their children from the classrooms of the south based institution earlier today.

Parents are quoted as saying the alleged incident occurred two years ago and the teacher was arrested and charged with the offence.

However he was cleared by a Magistrate as the child had migrated with her family.

Last week the parents staged a protest at outside the school calling for a meeting with Education Minister Anthony Garcia.

Placards were posted on the school fence warning that pupils will not be attending classes as long as the teacher was on the compound.

A letter was also sent to the Education Minister last Monday asking that the Ministry reconsider the decision.

The school’s PTA is set to meet this evening to discuss the next move.

Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) president Lynsley Doodhai was unable to comment on the issue as he was in a meeting.
