Judiciary says unpaid tickets issued before May 26th maybe paid within 6 months from that date

The Judiciary says all unpaid traffic tickets issued before May 26th maybe paid within 6 months from that date by paying 50 of the fixed penalty.

In a release it says this is according pursuant to the Miscellaneous Amendments Act, Act No. 10 of 2020.

The release says the Judiciary is superseding practice direction published in gazette No.71 of May 15 that extended the payment of all fines including the traffic tickets for which payment is due, to 3 months for the date on which such payment is due.

It says that practice directions expire on June 15th, 2020.

It says therefore all individuals who wish to access the 50% payment option for traffic tickets received before May 26th, 2020 will be able to make such payments with effect from June 16th, 2020.

It says it has developed an electronic portal to enable these payments to be made online and has worked with bankers in this regard.

The Judiciary says it is working with the Treasury Department towards the final approval for the receiving of these payments and fully anticipates being ready to do so by June 16th at which time fines will be accepted.
