Jack Warner test positive for COVID-19

Former government Minister and FIFA Vice President, Jack Warner

Jack Warner has tested positive for the coronavirus and is now hospitalised.

The former government Minister and FIFA Vice President was warded at the Couva Hospital yesterday.

It is said he tested negative at first and then when his condition deteriorated another test was done which came back positive.

Mr. Warner just came out of an election campaign, during which he unsuccessfully tried to win the Lopinot/Bon Air seat.

Jack Warner is now the 2nd politician to have contracted the virus.

Former Caroni east MP Dr. Tim Gopeesingh also tested positive and was in state isolation until he was discharged.

Twenty-eight persons have died of the virus in Trinidad and Tobago so far.

Yesterday 123 new cases were confirmed.

The Ministry of Health said the new cases are the results of samples taken during the period August 23rd to August 31st.

There are 1,201 active cases of the virus.

At the COVID media briefing yesterday Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh was disturbed by a newspaper cover showing a crowd outside a commercial bank in Port of Spain.

The Minister said it was a disturbing reality.
