Government’s explanation of meeting with VP of Venezuela being called “unusual”

National Security Minister, Stuart Young

National Security Minister, Stuart Young

The government’s explanation of the meeting between the Prime Minister and Venezuela’s Vice President is being called unusual.

The March meeting in Port of Spain has been under scrutiny by some.

Former head of the National Operations Centre, Garvin Heera says some protocols, which should have accompanied the meeting, were absent.

Up to yesterday National Security Minister Stuart Young insisted there was nothing sinister about the meeting, which he said focused on COVID-19.

The Minister said the meeting at the Diplomatic Center was short and had nothing to do with any oil deal involving Paria Fuels and the Venezuelan government.

But Mr. Heera said there are still some questions about the meeting.

The opposition United National Congress has been seeking to make a connection between the meeting and the shipment of oil sold by Paria Fuels.

The government said there is no link and the opposition is being mischievous.
