GOVERNMENT & TUNAPUNA PIARCO REGIONAL CORPORATION AT ODDS OVER CONSTRUCTION OF A JOINT POLICE-ARMY…

Conflict between the government and the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation, over the construction of a joint police-army post at the Eddie Hart Savannah in Tacarigua.

The corporation, run by the opposition Peoples National Movement, is being accused blocking the government’s crime fighting initiative.

In a post on her facebook page last evening Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar said, the PNM is showing its hatred for the people of Tunapuna.

The corporation says, the contractor had no approval for the construction of the post.

According to Mrs. Persad Bissessar the PNM sent its representatives along with a member of the corporation’s Municipal Police, to threaten and chase workers who had started construction.

She said, this is a most evil and vile act.

Nevertheless the Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander is vowing to press ahead, with plans to build 30 posts across the country.

He says, the initiative is about protecting communities and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.

Speaking to the media last evening, while visiting one of the first construction sites beneath the Grand Bazaar overpass, minister Alexander said, the new facilities are designed, to place law enforcement officers directly within communities rather than waiting for emergencies to occur.

Minister alexander said the work would continue.
