Government to re-establish NACC

HIV-AIDS3Prime minister Dr Keith Rowley has given the undertaking to re-establish the National Aids Co-ordinating Committee.

Dr Rowley says the matter was recently discussed among some members of cabinet and it is expected that the NACC would be re-etablished in the near future. Dr Rowley says the NACC should never have been shut down in the first place.

He says the issue of HIV/AIDS impacts everyone and his government is urgently required to get the NACC up and running again.

And former and member of the NACC Dale Enoch says he is pleased by the move. He says because of the action of the last administration the country’s HIV response has suffered.

According to Mr Enoch an interim agency was established by the Peoples Partnershp administration but it failed.

And former government minister and Technical Director of the NACC Dr Amery Brown is elated by the plan. He says his main concern is that the issue of HIV/AIDS be given priority.
