The man seen allegedly slapping a two-year-old girl while feeding her, has been granted 150 thousand dollars bail.

Thirty-two year old Dexter Gobin and his wife Yanique Taylor Gobin appeared before a Tunapuna magistrate yesterday on two charges of willfully assaulting a child causing her suffering and injury to her physical health.

The video which captured the alleged assault went viral on social media last week, triggering public outrage. While Mr. Gobin is on bail, his 21 year old Jamaican co-accused has been detained because she is not yet a legal resident. The couple got married in April this year.

Yesterday, the couple faced two sets of charges as it is alleged the two-year-old girl had been assaulted on two occasions. The charge was laid indictably under the Children’s Act which was proclaimed on May 18^th this year.

Representing the couple’s interest, attorney Fareed Ali said the bail was harsh. Speaking with newscenter five yesterday Mr. Ali said Mrs. Taylor –Gobin has been remanded to the women’s prison.

Mr. Ali said the couple has been receiving death threats.
