Labour Minister Jennifer Baptiste Primus says her job is not to represent workers because she now represents the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
She says this response for call for action to save the jobs of workers of the Tourism Development Company in the face of the pending shutdown of the state agency.
The Communications Workers Union has raised concerns.
General Secretary Joseph Remy has blamed the government for failing to consult before the decision was taken.
He said the workers at the company would now be left at a disadvantage.
Yesterday Minister Baptiste Primus said like Mr. Remy she is only doing her job and hers is not to represent workers.
The minister refuted claims that the government was closing companies seen as low hanging fruits or entities with little or no political consequence.
She said the cabinet makes difficult decisions in the interest of the country.
Minister Baptiste Primus said in moving forward, emotions must be set aside to secure the best separation package for the workers.
The minister was speaking on the Morning Edition programme on TV6 yesterday.
