The period of the COVID-19 pandemic has also seen increased cases of domestic violence.
Psychologist Dr. Khadija Khan says violence has been on the increase since the virus arrived earlier this year.
Dr. Khan made the statement following the brutal murder of a mother of 4 in Laventille.
A man with whom she shared a home chopped Sherian Huggins to death.
The attacker, Kevon Harris was later found hanging from a tree at Woodford Square.
Yesterday, Dr. Khan said, more needs to be done to improve the manner in which children and young adults resolve conflict.
She was speaking on the Morning Show on i95.5fm yesterday.
Dr. Khan who is also a member of the board of the Institute of Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies says domestic violence continues to be a huge social issue in this country.
